This long-awaited live collection is considered the gem of the saxophone archives. These four recordings show Salant at the height of his saxophone era. Recorded in the early 1990s in New York city, two projects are included here: the Moving Planet Orchestra, which was an experimental group combining Western and Middle Eastern sensibilities in a post-bop free-jazz context, and Saxophone Stories, a series of totally improvised meditative solo soprano saxophone concerts, the idea of which was to construct a narrative solely through improvisational playing. Salant considered it "walking a tightrope every night."

The martini-making sometimes rears its head at sporadic Salon parties in a NoChe loft but live performances are exceedingly rare. Recordings are all! ... more
