about

This is the only known studio recording by the Norman Salant Group, which existed for a short time in San Francisco in 1982. The group was unique in the New Wave scene, an all-instrumental band fronted by two saxophones, known for its musicianship and experimentation. Most of the music (including this track) was based on Salant's two solo albums, and then developed and arranged by the band.

Before joining the group, Bruce Slesinger had been a founding member of the Dead Kennedys. Morey Goldstein had been with The Readymades. Steve Ashman went on to form the Zazu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, which still exists today.

The martini-making sometimes rears its head at sporadic Salon parties in a NoChe loft but live performances are exceedingly rare. Recordings are all! ... more
