about

Recorded live at the Gargoyle Mechanique Laboratory on Avenue A in NYC on May 28, 1991. This was the first performance by the Moving Planet Orchestra (MPO), which existed only during 1991. Apparently the music was enough of an eye-opener at that time that some audience members were moved to tears. This initial line-up was smaller than the subsequent Knitting Factory performances. Gargoyle was an eclectic performance space deep in the East Village during an era when such esoteric low-rent spaces were flourishing with art of all kinds. The space actually came up with the name of the band when they designed the poster art. Shamira Shahinian relayed cues and directed the ensemble during the performance.

Norman Salant New York, New York

The martini-making sometimes rears its head at sporadic Salon parties in a NoChe loft but live performances are exceedingly rare. Recordings are all! ... more
